How to Root Android Sony Xperia XZ1 Using Magisk

Powered by Octa-core (4x2.35 GHz Kryo & 4x1.9 GHz Kryo) CPU, Qualcomm MSM8998 Snapdragon 835 chipset, Adreno 540 GPU. Xperia XZ1 run on Android 8.0 (Oreo).
If you decide to root your Xperia XZ1 with this method, you will lose your DRM keys. As a result, you won’t be able to use first-party features like X-Reality or Track ID. To get root access on Xperia XZ1 you need to magisk and flash a modified version of TWRP and that you use a custom kernel.
Prerequisite.
- Unlock Your Device Bootloader
- Enable Developer option
- Enable ADB debugging.
- Download modpunk's port of TWRP. Here
- Then, D0wnload aledoom's port of the Andro+ kernel. Here
- D0wnload Magisk-v14.5(1456).zip Here
- D0wnload ADB Fastboot tool and Extract the ADB Fastboot Tool anywhere on your computer. eg. desktop.
Instructions.
Flash TWRP recovery.
- Connect the Xperia XZ1 to the computer.
- Then, Open the Extractor ADB and Fastboot folder and Open Command Window by pressing Shift Key + Right Mouse Click.
open command window - Then, Reboot the Xperia XZ1 into Bootloader – Type the following command at the command prompt.
- adb reboot bootloader
- Or you can use the 2nd method to boot your Sony Xperia XZ1 into bootloader.
- Turn off the phone.
- Then, press and hold the Volume Up and attach a USB Cable from your PC
- it will boot into the bootloader.
- Then, the LED will be blue.
- Now your Xperia XZ1 will boot into bootloader.
- Copy all prerequisite files above (recovery and the boot image) into the ADB and fastboot folder.
- Then, type the following command to flash boot image and recovery.
- fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.2.0-0-poplar-patchlevel-2017-11-05.img
- fastboot flash boot boot.img fastboot
- flash FOTAKernel boot.img
- This will take time until the process is completed.
- Once the process is done, type the command to reboot your Xperia XZ1.
- fastboot reboot.
- Now, Reboot the system and then power off the Xperia XZ1.
- Finish.
Install Magisk to Root device via TWRP.
- Copy latest magisk to the phone root directory.
- Then Power off your phone.
- Boot your phone into TWRP recovery. How to boot Sony Xperia XZ1 into TWRP recovery?
- Press and hold the power button + the volume down button
- Release the Power button when your phone vibrates once.
- But, keep holding the volume down button until you see the TWRP splash screen.
- Once your phone enters the TWRP recovery screen, It will ask you for your password to decrypt the data partition.
- You need to enter the PIN number or password you use on your phone lock screen.
- But, if you don't use any lock screen security then the password is: default_password
- From the TWRP main menu tap Install.

- Now, swap to start flashing magisk to your phone.
- Once TWRP successfully flashes magisk to your device, now select reboot to the system.
